FRONT ROOM GALLERY:EXPANDED FIELD
An Indoor & Outdoor Exhibition in Kingston, NY
Presented by Front Room Gallery
446 Delaware Avenue, Kingston, NY 12401
For Upstate Art Weekend, Front Room Gallery presents FRONT ROOM GALLERY: EXPANDED FIELD, an indoor and outdoor exhibition in Kingston that engages the landscape and architecture of the site while showcasing the work of our represented artists. This exhibition offers a unique opportunity for visitors to experience contemporary sculpture in both interior and exterior settings, creating a dialogue between the works and their environment.
The exhibition will feature large-scale outdoor installations by Thomas Broadbent, Phil Buehler, Beth Dary, and Kathleen Vance among others, alongside an indoor presentation of additional gallery artists. Together, the indoor and outdoor components create a unified experience that encourages visitors to move between spaces and consider how scale, material, and setting affect perception.
EXPANDED FIELD examines the relationship between sculpture and site. By situating work outdoors in Kingston, the exhibition highlights how material, light, and environment influence meaning and experience. The landscape functions as an active participant, shaping the way visitors encounter and engage with the works.
Broadbent’s sculptures investigate balance and structure at a monumental scale. Buehler’s work engages ideas of place and cultural memory. Dary’s organic forms respond to natural growth and terrain, while Vance incorporates ecological materials and environmental themes. The outdoor works will be thoughtfully sited to integrate with the landscape and create an accessible, immersive experience.
The indoor presentation will include sculpture, wall-based works, and mixed media installations by additional gallery artists, including Amy Hill, Linda Griggs, Stephen Mallon, Mark Masyga, Joanne Ungar, Patricia Smith, Sasha Bezzubov, and Zoe Wetherall, among others. Front Room Gallery will host guided tours and walk-throughs of both the outdoor and indoor works, allowing visitors to engage directly with the artists and the dialogue between the spaces.
Kingston’s vibrant arts community makes it an ideal location for this exhibition. Through EXPANDED FIELD, Front Room Gallery presents ambitious, site-responsive work and offers visitors a dynamic encounter with contemporary sculpture, while strengthening connections across the Hudson Valley arts community.
