Button World
This is a site specific installation with drawing on ceramics and wall, mounted individually and also connected with crochet and lace.
I use those ceramic elements and sculptures to tell the story about the day the world almost drowned on two layers. The first layer is the story told in fragmented narratives about a far away world. The inhabitants of that world are building walls around their hearts with buttons and for different reasons. They fear someone is disturbing their peace, they fear someone else is going to take their possessions, the fear of the unknown. Because of all the button walls their world gets heavier and darker day by day. Since that world is floating in a big ocean it is in danger of being pulled down and disappearing into the darkness
The story is told in a nonlinear way and develops in response to the world around me, political events, relationship events far and close to me as well as my inner world. The second layer of the story is more metaphorical and is asking questions about how our own perception forms our reality, how memory and personal view influences me, how we can change direction, how we meet the world and each other, how fear and stories we tell ourselves about others harm us and the world we live in. The Wall Installation creates a narrative of our shared humanity and the danger of self destruction.
